Research Interests:	The morphology and hydrology of streams and riparian vegetation are mutually interdependent. The roots of riparian plants exert tremendous, although almost unquantified, influence on stream channel pattern, bank stability, water quality, and fish habitat. Livestock grazing and other land uses affect riparian ecosystems directly and indirectly. However, all these relationships differ among stream reaches and across landscapes. Research on which students and I collaborate focuses on riparian interrelationships among channel form, hydrology, vegetation, soils, and land management. Research tools include field measurement, stream classification, synecology, photography, remote sensing, and GIS.
