Its dynamic geologic and natural history provide the backdrop for its rich cultural heritage, from Washoe camps on the banks of Emerald Bay, through the westward movement and mining age, and the establishment of the tourism industry, Lake Tahoe has been a cornerstone of American history. The North Lake Tahoe Historical Society was founded in 1969 and incorporated in 1971 by a group of concerned citizens who were passionate about this history, and its preservation. Their first major project was to preserve the historic Gatekeeper’s Cabin, then to rebuild the structure as a museum after it was destroyed by arson fire in 1978. The Gatekeeper’s Museum opened in 1981. In 1992, the collections were expanded by the donation of the Marion Steinbach Indian Basket collection. The mission of NLTHS is the preservation, presentation and interpretation of Lake Tahoe history. NLTHS comprises 3 museums with over 3,000 square feet of display space. The Gatekeeper’s Museum sits on the site of a known Washoe Indian campsite.

Description:	The Project Area for the South Tahoe Redevelopment Agency (STRA) was adopted on June 28, 1988 by Ordinance NO. 746. The Project Area is located in the northeast portion of the City of South Lake Tahoe and encompasses approximately 174 acres. Major land uses include tourist facilities and commercial development. The Project Area generally runs along Highway 50 from just west of Ski Run Boulevard to the California-Nevada border. The Redevelopment Plan provides the Agency with powers, duties and obligations to implement and continue its program for the redevelopment, rehabilitation, and revitalization of the Project Area. Because of the long- term nature of the Redevelopment Plan and the need to retain flexibility to respond to market and economic conditions, property owners and developer interests and opportunities as they arise, the Redevelopment Plan does not present a precise plan. Rather, the Redevelopment Plan represents a process and a basic framework within which specific projects have been established to achieve solutions that will eliminate blight, protect the environment and provide affordable housing. The Redevelopment Agency Board of Directors formulates the policies of the Redevelopment Agency. The members of the board are comprised of the City Council members.

Description:	The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California is a federally recognized Indian Tribe organized pursuant to the Indian Reorganization Act of June 18, 1934, as amended. The Tribe has four communities, three in Nevada (Stewart, Carson, and Dresslerville), and one in California (Woodfords). There is also a Washoe community located within the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony. The Tribe has jurisdiction over trust allotments in both Nevada and California, with additional Tribal Trust parcels located in Alpine, Placer, Sierra, Douglas, Carson, and Washoe Counties.

Description:	The Western Regional Biomass Energy Program is one of five Regional Biomass Energy Programs established and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. Thirteen states participate in the Western Regional Biomass Energy Program including Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. The program promotes the use of biomass for energy production. Biomass consists of renewable organic materials and includes forestry and agricultural crops and residues; wood and food processing wastes; and municipal solid waste.
